Week 9 Update

This past week has been focused on the poster as well as the presentation that we will do next week. The finishing touches of the poster were added, and the format of the poster was changed. Imisi was the one who worked on the change, which helped the poster look better and more professional. In regards to the presentation, the general structure of it was decided on, as well who would be working on what. Some finishing work was done on E-Quest, which helped enable more accurate results.

Week 8 Update

This week, work was mainly focused on the poster that is required for all students. During class, the general design and layout of the poster was decided on, as well as who would be writing what sections of the piece. Similar to the report that was finished last week, everyone wrote about what they worked on for the methods and results, and the introduction and conclusion were assigned to people in the group.

Week 7 Update

This past week, almost all work has been done for the rough draft of the final report. Each person wrote about what they worked on in the methods and results section, and all members had an additional job to do, such as the abstract, introduction, and conclusion. As well as the report, some light work has been done on the house itself. Dan has begun work using E-Quest, which will be used to help find air conditioning costs.

Week 6 Update

Things are going well for our sustainable house. We are still working on electrical and heat loads, and some more confirming R-values and such, but these things are just about finalized and should be complete soon. We have started working on the Final Report Draft, which will be finished next week.

Week 5 Update

There has been a great deal of work done this week. There has been a lot of focus on the various loads that will be on the house. Lars has been working on the heating load with Rediet. Lars has been looking at the energy needed to heat the home, while Rediet has been focusing on the heating produced by people and the like. Imisi has been working on the final touches for the envelope, while Dan has been working on water consumption calculations and the system itself. The progress is looking great; the house is really coming together!

Week 4 Update

This past week has involved a lot of calculations by everyone on the team. Imisi has finalized the envelope and the envelope calculations, with a final U-value of 11.5, which should be sufficient for the heating and cooling of the home efficiently. Rediet has been chugging along with the internal load, focusing right now on the electrical load. She is determining all the appliances used in the home, and how much energy will be used a day by deciding how long a day will people be in the home. Dan has been working on the grey water system schematics, trying to figure out how that system will work and be efficient. Lars has been looking into the heating load of the house to help decide what geothermal system will be used in the house.
